homeo-treatmentThe main reason people visit a natural health practitioner is because, relying solely on conventional medicine has not provided a solution to their health issue, in some cases the problem has not improved at all, forcing them to seek an alternative.

Almost always when the medical fraternity rail against any alternative/complimentary form of treatment, they make some alarmingly ill-informed assertions. As an example listening to a doctor being interviewed on the radio regarding homeopathy, I was astounded that he was convinced that complimentary medicine in generaland homeopathy in particular were of no value. On the basis there was a lack of scientific evidence supporting homeopathic practice, what he said was that homeopathic medicine was inert and could not possibly have any beneficial effect other than the placebo effect. On the other hand and this is where it starts to get surreal, not only is it inert and can have no possible effect it can also be quite dangerous!Oh really pull the other one!

On another occasion watching News Night where a panel were fielding questions from an audience containing a large number of conventional doctors and other medics. One doctor in the audience made a comparison between doctoring and the armed forces, what he said was greeted by a loud applause from the majority of the audience. What he said was something along the lines of “I wouldn’t expect soldiers to go into battle with guns firing blanks and I don’t expect to either, I want my gun to be fully loaded”.

I would imagine that a psychiatrist might think of this as “Shipman syndrome” I can’t help thinking someone with that attitude would be far less of a hazard firing blanks, but firing these
homeopathic so called blanks takes many years of dedicated training.

If homeopathy is as claimed by the medical fraternity inert and nothing more than a placebo, why do so many people find it beneficial and if it is merely psychosomatic how did it work on my cat? If this placebo effect is that powerful in homeopathy, then surely it must be equally so in conventional medicine and if so it could be a wonderful way of saving the NHS millions and avoiding potentially dangerous side effects.
