natural acne remediesYou don’t have to spend another dime buying chemicals to put on your face. Everything you need to create a healthy, beneficial, facial mask can be found in your kitchen.

Honey is an antibacterial that has been used throughout the ages to dress wounds. It is an excellent choice to use on troubled skin by itself or as a base with other ingredients.

Always choose organic, raw honey.

Masks can be left on for up to 30 minutes, although some people put up with the mess to leave them on overnight. After that time, rinse thoroughly and use coconut oil as a moisturizer if your skin feels too dry.

Honey Mask Recipes for Facials:

Cinnamon and Honey
Two tablespoons of honey to one teaspoon of cinnamon. Cinnamon is also an antimicrobial. You can also use a 1:1 ratio for short or overnight spot treatments.

Yogurt and Honey
Use a 1:1 ratio. Be sure to use plain, whole- fat yogurt. This mask is very nourishing to the skin.

Strawberries and Honey
Mash up strawberries and mix with honey with a roughly 1:1 ratio. Strawberries are high in salicylic acid and vitamin C, providing nourishment for the skin along with opening and shrinking pores.

Avocado and Honey
Mash one avocado and add one tablespoon of honey. Mix well. This is a nutrient rich mask.

Lemon and Honey
Use a 1:1 ratio. Vitamin C from the lemon nourishes the skin and fights infection and lemon tones the skin as well. (You can also use straight lemon juice for spot treatments).

Turmeric, Milk, and Honey
Turmeric has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Use 4 tablespoons turmeric to 4 tablespoons honey. Add 1 tablespoon of milk or yogurt. Turmeric will leave the skin yellow. Use any astringent (like lemon or apple cider vinegar) to remove the yellow tinge.

Other masks to help clear your skin blemishes
Egg whites– Whip and apply. Egg whites are said to help fade acne scars and to help with breakouts due to the protein and vitamins they contain. They also help curtail excess sebum.

Papaya–Mash and apply. The enzyme, papain, helps to reduce inflammation and prevent infection.

Orange peel–Grated, mashed peel with water or mix with aloe vera. The citric acid works as an astringent while the vitamin C helps promote new healthy cell growth.

Banana peel–Rub the inside of the peel over your face. Banana peel contain lutein, a powerful antioxidant that reduces swelling and inflammation while promoting healthy cell growth.

Oatmeal – make one serving of oatmeal and add 1 tablespoon of raw honey. Use after it completely cools. This is a mask to reduce inflammation and to soothe the skin; it is not a mask that will kill bacteria.

To truly heal your skin, you must treat more than the outside (the symptoms); you must treat the cause. A full healing will involve detoxing, balancing the gut and eliminating Candida, eating a very healthy diet, and balancing your hormones (men, women).

improve hair skin and nails naturallyEnjoying a healthy diet on a regular basis not only helps the body function internally but can help it be at its best outwardly. For example, dry skin or brittle nails not only end up acting as a source of embarrassment for some but also may be indicators that underlying health issues are at hand.

However, it’s possible to correct such issues and improve hair, skin and nails naturally by simply by eating foods that can help turn these conditions around.

For example, according to the Mayo Clinic, nails with a yellow tinge may mean that chronic bronchitis is affecting an individual. If there are indentations running horizontally on the nail, the issue can range from a zinc deficiency to pneumonia.

Nails

It’s likely that the solution to help improve nails exists right in people’s own homes; foods known to boost overall nail health include pumpkin seeds, garbanzo beans and flax seed oil.(1) Of course, they’re good for the immune system too, helping the body function better.

Hair

When it comes to hair, many people often complain of it lacking luster, seeking more vibrance and “life.” Rather than turn to pricey shampoos likely laden with harmful chemicals, or trying the too-good-to-be-true infomercial products, there are other, more natural methods that can help.

Tara Sowlaty, a natural foods chef and registered health coach, says that eating more walnuts, lentils, spinach and sweet potatoes are great ways to keep scalp oils circulating and renewing hair growth cells, resulting in stronger, healthier-looking locks.(2) Just like foods that help improve nail health, these foods too are healthy choices regardless of hair condition; regular consumption of them keeps the body functioning optimally.

Castor oil is another way to bolster hair health. It’s been drawing a great deal of attention lately, with many people noting that massaging it on the scalp and leaving it in the hair for just a few times a month amounts to not only increased hair growth but noticeably shiner strands as well.(3)

Skin

As for dry skin, many times, a vitamin deficiency is behind the reason for itching, cracking, flaking and resulting redness. Foods such as tomatoes and cantaloupe help skin retain moisture; broccoli and oranges help restore skin’s elasticity, and bananas and avocado improve cracking, especially around the corners of the mouth.

remove bedbugsYou can eliminate bedbugs from your home without chemicals, using traps that can be built for about a dollar’s worth of supplies, say scientists at the University of Florida.

“This concept of trapping works for places where people sleep and need to be protected at those locations,” entomologist Phil Koehler said.

In recent years, bedbugs have become a growing problem across the United States, with the blood-sucking insects turning up in cities nationwide. According to an April 2013 survey by the National Pest Management Association, 99.6 percent of all pest management professionals in the country had encountered at least one bedbug infestation in the previous year. Forty-nine percent of those surveyed said that most infestations occurred during summer.

The association said that summer might be a busy bedbug season because more people are traveling or relocating, and are either bringing bedbugs back into their homes or discovering them in their new location.

Although most famous for living in mattresses and bedding, bedbugs can live in nearly any furniture. Their bites are often confused for mosquito bites or rashes, allowing them to go undetected for long periods of time.

Traps are cheap, safe and effective

Because bedbugs have now become resistant to most pesticides, people often turn to extreme measures to deal with them. But Koehler warns that techniques such as mothballs, bug bombs or pesticide treatment of mattresses are either ineffective or dangerous.

In contrast, the traps are an easy way to both determine if your home has bedbugs, and to eliminate them if an infestation is confirmed. Koehler estimates that it would take about an afternoon to make the 50 traps needed to remove bedbugs from a three-bedroom apartment. Compared with the average $3,000 price tag for bedbug extermination in such a space however, the time investment may be well worth it. It can cost $1,200 to eliminate bedbugs even from a small apartment.

The traps, made with glue, masking tape and inexpensive plastic containers, present the bedbugs with a rough surface that makes it possible for them to get in, but with a smooth surface inside that makes it impossible for them to get out. They are designed to trap the insects as they move from their daytime hiding places in search of victims to feed on.

The simple nature of the traps makes them basically foolproof, Koehler said, and much safer than the alternatives.

“It’s really hard to mess this up to the point that you’d hurt anything,” he said.

Five easy steps
You can find instructions, photos and videos of how to construct the traps on the web site of the university’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. In essence, however, all that is required is:

1. Cut four pieces of rough-surfaced tape into lengths at least the height of a small plastic container.

2. Press the pieces of tape along the inside of the container, evenly spaced.

3. Wrap more tape around the outside of a larger plastic container, from its base to its upper edge.

4. Glue the smaller container inside the larger one, making sure to leave space between the walls of the containers.

5. (optional) Dust the space between the walls of the containers with baby powder.

The bedbugs will be able to climb into the larger container and perhaps even into the smaller one, but will be trapped in the “moat” between the two containers and unable to escape.

The traps should be placed underneath the legs of all furniture in the home, including beds, chairs and sofas. Trapping should continue until no more bedbugs are turning up inside the traps.

natural homemade deodorantIf you’re like me, you have tried many natural deodorants. Many of them that claim to be natural are not natural and/or are not healthy. Most of them do not work. In fact, I’ve only come across a few that worked well, and they didn’t last very long.

These days I don’t need it. The healthier I eat, the less body order I have. In fact, if I do stink, I know exactly what I ate to cause it. A healthy body with a balanced inner eco-system (a healthy gut) doesn’t exude a foul body odor.

On the other hand, nobody’s perfect. It’s good to have deodorant for the day that follows a night on the town, one with a few drinks, a restaurant, etc.

The best deodorant I ever used, I made at home. It still doesn’t last too terribly long; for me, it works for about 4 hours. But it’s certainly my favorite, out of the many I’ve tried.

All Natural Homemade Deodorant Recipe DIY

  • 5 tablespoons unrefined coconut oil
  • 5 tablespoons pure cocoa butter (no additives)
  • 3 tablespoons of aloe vera juice
  • ? cup baking soda
  • ? cup witch hazel extract
  • 4 drops essential peppermint oil or tea tree oil
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil

Heat the coconut oil and the cocoa butter until they are liquid. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender or a food processor until well blended. Place into a container (preferably glass) and refrigerate overnight.

There are a lot of ways you can adjust this recipe. If you want a powder deodorant, you can decrease the amount of liquid ingredients and increase the baking soda. Some people use cornstarch, but cornstarch feeds yeast. I avoid it.

You can make a roll-on liquid, or even a spray deodorant, by using less coconut oil and less cocoa butter, leaving out the baking soda, and adding more aloe vera juice (up to ? a cup) and more witch hazel extract (as needed to reach the right consistency).

If you want to make a great stick deodorant, add more cocoa butter (the real, pure, super thick cocoa butter, not the creamy stuff with the additives) to the original recipe. You can press it into an old deodorant container.

Feel free to experiment with essential oils for fragrance. For a masculine woodsy scent, try oil of oregano, which also adds to the odor protection due to its anti-bacterial properties. Citrus oils, peppermint, or floral fragrances could be added.

Speaking of essential oils, if you ever find yourself smelling foul and don’t have deodorant lying around, essential oils are wonderful for killing the bacteria and fungi on our skin that causes odor. I tend to keep peppermint oil on hand at all times; it’s good for so much!

Remember that you can eliminate most of your body odor by eating a truly healthy diet. One other significant factor is your choice of soap. Get rid of conventional soap and change to organic. Once the bacteria on your skin are back in balance, you will notice your body odor will be considerably reduced. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll still smell like a human, but I am often asked what fragrance I am wearing, when I am wearing nothing at all.

acneAcne is one of those things that everybody seems to get at one point or another, and yet nobody really likes it. While some cases are mild, other cases are quite severe and can lead to visible scarring. So, not only do these people have to suffer through a bad outbreak of acne, they then have to live with the scars for the rest of their lives. Or do they? The answer to that is no they don’t, or at least they can try any number of acne scars remedies that will minimize the scars that are there. Not all of these treatments will work the same on everybody, but they are worth trying if it means you can feel better about yourself.

One of the best known remedies for acne scars is citrus juice. You can apply the juice of a lemon or lime directly to the problem areas. However, some people find that pure citrus juice irritates their skin, so you may want to try different dilutions until you find the one that’s best for you. Apply it once or twice a day for several weeks and see how much lighter your scars look. It can take quite a while, but if it just doesn’t seem to be working for you, then you can try other acne scars remedies.

A lot of people swear by olive oil for making their acne scars less visible. In fact, there are any number of different oils that you can try. Simply massage the oil into the scar and the surrounding area, and let it sit. This helps to soften and moisturize the skin which can help diminish the visibility of acne scarring.

Here’s a natural remedy for acne that you may not be familiar with: tomatoes! That’s right. Tomatoes are high in Vitamin A which keeps the body from producing too much sebum, which is the substance that is largely responsible for acne to begin with. Tomatoes are also rich in antioxidants which are beneficial for repairing the skin.

One of the most soothing acne scars remedies is a mixture of rose water and sandalwood. Simply add a few drops of the rose water to the sandalwood until it is at a paste like consistency. Then put the resulting paste directly on the scars and let it sit for about an hour. This is generally very gentle on the skin, so you can even leave it on as you sleep.

You have to be more careful if you are currently experiencing an acne outbreak, as you shouldn’t let any foreign material (such as any of the above ingredients we’ve talked about) get into the sores. Not only can it be irritating, but it can also make the acne worse. However, if you need immediate comfort, you may want to try an icepack to help cool and temporarily tighten the skin.

While a lot of people have found success with the above acne scars treatments, you should always consult with a qualified medical professional before doing anything that has to do with your health.

body-brushingDry body brushing is a natural way of improving both your inner health and your outer appearance at the same time. Dry body brushing your skin stimulates and improves the circulation in your skin and improves lymphatic drainage which has plenty of health benefits for the rest of your body.

And the best bit is that it’s not an expensive treatment that you have done at a spa or a clinic – it’s a simple process that you can add into your daily routine and do by yourself in your own home.

How to do it?

So what exactly is dry body brushing? It’s really quite simple because it’s exactly what it sounds like! The only thing you’ll need to buy to get started is the brush. You can find dry body brushes at most health and beauty stores. Make sure that the brush you buy has a long handle and real natural bristles not synthetic ones.

Brushing should be performed by starting at your feet and working your way upwards. Lymphatic fluid in your body flows upwards in the direction of your heart so when you brush your skin you should be aiming to brush in circular upwards motions in the direction of your heart.

Dry brushing should be performed at least once a day for 5 – 10 minutes at a time before you get into the shower.

What are the benefits?

Boosts circulation – Bad circulation can lead to a number of problems like varicose veins, fatigue and water retention. Improving the circulation in our skin helps to keep our bodies healthy.
Detoxifies – Dry brushing your body helps to stimulate your lymphatic system which is responsible for detoxifying your body. Your lymphatic system looks after your immune system by helping to destroy pathogens, filter out waste and keep all fluids in your body moving freely.
Softer, smoother skin – Dry brushing does wonders for your skin. Not only does it help to remove all dead skin cells, it also unclogs pores and helps to tighten your skin. This encourages new skin growth to give you shiny, healthy skin that positively glows.
Get rid of cellulite – Cellulite is made up from toxic material that has become stuck in your body’s fat cells. Brushing areas of cellulite will help to break down the toxic materials so that they can then be removed from the body.

Dry body brushing can also be an energising way to begin your day, add it into your daily morning routine and it won’t be long before your friends are asking you what you new beauty secret is!

ice-ice-babyThe tip this week is for resolving Fibrous issues, Uterine Fibroids, Scar Tissue including post-operative Adhesions, Polycystic Ovaries and Breast Cysts.
Three case studies.

The first was a woman who I was treating for her Allergies, whilst she was lying on the couch I noticed she had her legs drawn up and assumed she was suffering back pain. But I was mistaken her discomfort was in fact due to post – operative adhesions resulting from an earlier Hysterectomy, which now required further surgery to remove the scar tissue.

I recommended her to follow this simple procedure which she undertook for several weeks. When she attended an appointment with her surgeon she was given the all clear, no further treatment required.

The second was a woman with a Uterine Fibroid the size of a grapefruit, following this simple plan she resolved the problem in less than 10 weeks.

The third was a woman with multiple Breast Cysts who again resolved the issue this time in less than 3 weeks using this simple technique.

Requirements – A small bowl to hold 4 ice cubes and a towel.

Method – Run the ice slightly under the tap to remove stickiness, once wet, rub the ice over the area of concern, using each of the 4 ice cubes in turn as one melts away start on the next until all 4 have been used. It is important to move the ice over the skin fairly briskly as the idea is to invigorate the area rather than to freeze it. The towel is to catch the drips as you sit watching the TV.
